WORLD STRESS MAP SERVICE (WSMS)

Director: Friedemann Wenzel

General Secretary: Oliver Heidbach

The World Stress Map (WSM) Service is the global repository for contemporary tectonic stress data from the Earth's crust. It has started in 1986 as a project of the International Lithosphere Programme (ILP). Since 1995 the WSM Service is a research project of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The WSM research team is integrated into the Tectonic Stress Group of the Geophysical Institute at the Karlsruhe University. The WSM is also a task group of the International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth's Interior (IASPEI). The WSM database can be downloaded free of charge through the project website (http://www.world-stress-map.org). Here further details about the stress data, utilities for data plotting, stress maps for specific regions, and the online service CASMO (Create A Stress Map Online) is provided.
